Columbus Zoo Vacation July 3, 2009

It’s been a busy week for my vacation. We spent Tuesday and Wednesday in Columbus visiting the zoo. It’s a great zoo and I’ve always wanted to visit it, but we had extra motivation this year because the Cleveland Zoo elephants are being kept there while their new exhibit is being built back home.

Old Friends

The aquarium at the Columbus Zoo turned out to be everybody’s favorite. The 100,000 gallon saltwater tank is amazing.

One big fishtank

And the manatee exhibit is really cool too – although manatee’s aren’t that photogenic so I’ll show you this picture of Carter looking at floating salad instead. That’s actually leftovers from the keeper finishing up feeding the stingrays that are also in the manatee tank.

And one last picture of the rest of the family looking in on the recently born baby Asian elephant. This was the big draw at the zoo. I guess the line to see it is usually hours long if it is in the indoor exhibit. We got lucky and both days it was outside.

T-ball season started over the weekend. I’m coaching again. Last year though. Next year she’ll move up to the “bigs” – coach pitch hardball or softball. She’s leaning toward hardball.

Big swing!

I sponsored the team this year. You can just make out the “Left” of “Left of Center Photo” on her shoulder. I’m hoping to sponsor the soccer team this fall and Carter’s baseball team next spring as well.

Running to first

So much has been going on lately.  School is winding down for everybody.  Paige was the first one free out.   She graduated from Pre-K on Friday and couldn’t be happier about it.

Soccer season also ended this week and baseball started up. Carter has three games in already. Paige’s t-ball games start next weekend. That means easier nights for everybody. We’ve spent that past couple of weeks running from soccer to baseball to t-ball.

We also got to a Captain’s game this weekend. The kids had a blast. They got to parade around the field before the game as part of the school’s reading program.

The season is just about half way over.  Carter has been playing great and his team is doing pretty good this season.  He’s settled in on playing goalie or forward as his favorites.
